Read & Digest: How to strengthen your digestive system!

Writer's picture: clairemariekallettaclairemariekalletta

Ever bloated after eating certain foods like dairy or gluten? Ever deem yourself allergic or simply unable to digest certain problem foods? Yes. Me too.

Why does this happen? Why do our digestive systems freak out to some things we were never clinically deemed allergic or intolerant to? A big part of how are gut reacts to what passes through it has to do with a lack of digestive enzymes.

What are digestive enzymes?

Digestive enzymes are basically tiny little warriors (amino acids) that battle and break down certain foods that pass through our GI tract. There's a distinct little army for everything: dairy, gluten, fat, carbs, proteins and even fiber. The problem is: these armies are little - and sometimes there aren't enough soldiers in these little battling squads to take on that big plate of nachos or hunk of meat you just shot into your gut.

BUT WORRY NOT. There's still a way we can indulge in our favorite foods without overbearing our little gut guys. Luckily, we can take digestive enzyme supplements to help build our armies and strengthen our digestive systems.

How to help your gut

In the past few years nutritionists have discovered most of us are severely lacking in digestive enzymes - therefore many supplement brands have developed there own digestive enzyme supplements designed to be taken right before eating in order to give your armies the proper ammunition for the meal they're about to encounter.

Will all the options on the shelves, it can be extremely confusing to figure out which brand is best for our systems and the most helpful. After tons of research and trying five different brands digestive enzyme blends - I found out the most efficient and powerful digestive enzymes for me: Probulin Daily Digestive Enzymes.

Check out their instagram!

Why I choose Probulin

As are all supplements: not all digestive enzymes are created equal. My system is supported best while I take Probulin because of the immense amount of digestive enzymes they fuel into these tiny little vegetable capsules.

Aside from the fact that Probulin incorporates over 15 different gut-supporting enzymes into their capsules, they have the added benefits of being:

- Gluten free

- GMO free

- Wheat free

- Magnesium Stearate free

- Dairy free

- Soy free

- Completely plant and probiotic based

The absence of all of the above empowers these little capsules even more, helping breakdown even healthy bloating culprits like cruciferous veggies, beans, and different protein sources - allowing us to incorporate these foods into our diets without constant fear of food babies.

MAKTrek® Bypass Devlivery System

I mentioned this briefly while speaking about why I also choose Probulin's probiotic supplements in a previous post. The totally plant based supplement brand uses a one-of-a-kind delivery technology in all of their supplements to ensure consumers are actually reaping all the benefits the brand works so hard to pack into every little capsule.

So what is the MAKTrek® Bypass delivery system? This remarkable transportation system uses a sustainably harvested source of seaweed extract (from Lessonia nigrescens) known as a “Complex Marine Polysaccharide”. Read more in depth about how this system works here.

BUT IN SIMPLER TERMS:

Probulin uses a totally all-natural seaweed extract to create a chemical free barrier between their digestive enzymes and our stomach acid. Why is this important? Our stomach acid often destroys most of the enzyme activity commonly used in other digestive enzyme supplements.  With the use of seaweed extract as opposed to chemicals, the MAKTrek® Bypass delivery system is able to preserve the activation of these digestive enzymes when entering our guts.
